About

“…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” Isaiah 61:3

Sometimes it takes the process of being broken to be restored and losing your path to truly find your purpose. This was part of the process Katy Reynolds found as she walked through the trials that eventually led to writing her first released single, Seek First the Kingdom.

Born and raised in a small Texas town, Katy was rooted in her local church where she first fell in love with worship. After years of journaling, she began writing songs in middle school, and even though she loved music and writing, she never quite felt bold enough to let anyone hear it. She spent her school years playing and singing in a worship band with her friends and upon graduation, she moved to study at the University of North Texas. There, she continued writing music and even got the opportunity to sing some with her best friend and fellow songwriter at the Youth Evangelism Conference in Dallas, TX.

By the end of her college years, life changes began to happen and Katy was engaged to be married and decided that her path in music must have only been meant for the past.

A few years after getting married and moving back closer to her hometown, it seemed like life was good and comfortable. Then one day after compiling family photo albums, Katy realized she couldn’t look back on each year with much purpose. Nothing was really wrong in her life at all, but she couldn’t think of anything notable she had done for the Kingdom of God. It was a moment of conviction from the Holy Spirit. So she prayed a terrifying prayer asking God to use her how He wanted, even if it meant stepping away from what’s comfortable.

He began to open doors for Katy. After several years of not writing music and not singing, He called her to play piano again and write again. Her friends in youth ministry asked her to be a group leader for middle school girls and be part of the worship team. She finally felt like she was stepping back into her purpose and doing more for the Kingdom. Her quiet times with the Lord were something she looked forward to and found peace in. Looking back now, she can see that God was preparing her for what was to come.

A month after turning 25, Katy walked into what she felt to be another life. Her marriage of 3 years had fallen apart and one week after the divorce was filed, tragically her father was killed in an accident.

Nothing in her life looked the same and she never imagined for either loss to ever happen. In these moments when she could only turn to God, she felt even closer to Him and was overwhelmed with the peace He provided.

The path ahead wasn’t easy and over the next few years led to Katy struggling with a loss of identity, fear, and a dark season of depression.

During this time, Katy felt called to return to the DFW area and rebuild her life on her own the way God had planned for her. She knew God wanted to heal her in a way only He could and provide a life away from the label of divorce, tragedy, or depression.

The next several years continued to be formative years for Katy in healing and restoration. She found a stronger voice that God gave, new messages in her songs, and a confirmed calling on her life to share them. It was on a mission trip to Vietnam that God confirmed her calling to pursue music. She continued to wrestle with this as fear crept in, but she committed to saying “Yes” to God and from there He opened the doors to connecting with her producer and providing the resources to begin recording.

As doors continue to open, Katy has relocated to Franklin, TN to continue pursuing writing and releasing music with a few more singles coming later this year.

Even though life has gone places that Katy never could have thought of, she is confident in the restoration and promises that God is still bringing in her life. A few years ago, He gave her Ephesians 3:20 as a verse for her life that He will “do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…” and Katy has only begun to see the fruition of this.
